Brompton Regis Show and Gymkhana
This year’s 60 th Brompton Regis Show and Gymkhana is taking place on Saturday 17 th August from 9am. It promises to be a fantastic day out for the entire family, with a feast full of activities and shows to keep you entertained while you’re out of your Exmoor holiday cottages. A brief 25 minute drive south from Dunster brings you to the lovely west Somerset village Brompton Regis.
A show with a firm tradition of putting on a spectacle since the 1950’s and at nearly 60 years old there seems to be no letting up from the event’s organisers. The horse show and gymkhana always proves to be a popular attraction and with riders and horses from a wide area competing in 35 different classes you’re certain to be kept entertained by the showing, show jumping, fancy dress as well as the gymkhana, including special classes for Exmoor ponies.
Also on hand is this year’s dog show. This is one for your family pets, anyone can enter on the day and is sure to be a hit with humans and canine’s alike! There’s a selection of pedigree classes that include ‘Best in Show’ and some popular family classes too where owners have the opportunity show off their faithful friend.
A variety of exhibits from local community members will be on show, including cookery, flower, vegetable, egg and handicraft. Providers of the egg show have brought something to pull on the heart strings this year in the form of newly-born chicks who will be on display for the children (and the grown up’s) to look at and hold.
There’s plenty more to see and do at this year’s Brompton Regis Show and Gymkhana including more stalls and activities such as bouncy castles, face-painting, races and games not to mention a police dog demonstration and a separate fox hound demonstration.
Refreshments will be obtainable from the designated tent and there’s even a BBQ too.
